All you have to do is make sure you’re a member of both the AA Smartfuel and ChargeNet programmes, connect your accounts through the AA Smartfuel app and you’re away laughing.
How to start converting your AA Smartfuel discounts into ChargeNet credits
To turn your AA Smartuel discounts into ChargeNet credits, simply download the latest version AA Smartfuel app and select ChargeNet as your reward partner, or follow the instructions below;
- Open the AA Smartfuel app (you’ll need the latest version). If you don’t have an AA Smartfuel account, simply join via the app
- Select “Rewards” from the menu bar on the AA Smartfuel app
- Select ChargeNet as your reward partner
- Choose to make a one-off conversion or set them to convert automatically
- Add your ChargeNet account number and email address
- If you have discounts to convert, your ChargeNet credits will be added to your account immediately
What do I get?
You’ll get $0.25 ChargeNet credits for every 1 cent per litre AA Smartfuel discounted converted. For example, if you earn thirty cents off per litre with Contact Energy’s AA Smartfuel plan, you can convert this into $7.50 ChargeNet credits, which equates to around 96 kilometres of charge.**

If you’re not already an AA Smartfuel member, simply pick up a free card at Countdown, bp or any other participating retailer, download the free AA Smartfuel app and from there you can choose to convert to ChargeNet credits.

You can check the balance of credits on your account by visiting app.charge.net.nz/account and logging into your account, or within the ChargeNet app under the transaction page.
You can find your account number by visiting app.charge.net.nz/account and logging into your account, or by selecting the account icon in the top right corner within the ChargeNet app. Your 8 digit account number will be shown below your name. Alternatively, you’ll also find your account number on your monthly invoice.
If you do not see ChargeNet as an option on the rewards partner page within the AA Smartfuel app, you may need to download the latest version of the app.
AA Smartfuel discounts converted to ChargeNet credits will not expire however, they are not transferable or redeemable for cash.
Can I earn ChargeNet credits when shopping at AA Smartfuel’s fuel partners? Yes, but you need to make sure that when shopping at bp or GAS you must choose to accumulate your discount and save it for later. Check with the attendant that your discount is not being used instantly on your fuel purchase.
