26 June 2025 – ChargeNet is pleased to announce that its fast charger at Inglewood Place in central Wellington is back online, following an extensive multi-year infrastructure upgrade led by Wellington City Council (WCC).
Originally decommissioned in July 2022 to make way for a wider revitalisation project in the area, the charging site has now been refreshed, upgraded, and reactivated for everyday EV drivers, a testament to the strength of the long-term partnership between ChargeNet and WCC. The new charger offers increased power and capacity, featuring a dual-port unit capable of charging two EVs simultaneously, replacing a single-port model.
ChargeNet’s Head of Operations, Kivash Sewnun says that Wellington EV drivers will be happily reunited with one of their firm customer favourites, handily located in the heart of Te Aro and in close proximity to both the Cuba Mall and Courtney Place shopping and dining districts.
“Inglewood Place has always been a favourite with EV drivers in the capital, right in the heart of the city. It’s a location that’s hard to beat for convenience,” he says.
“We’re thrilled to see the charger reinstated, upgraded, and ready to go. It’s a great example of what can be achieved through collaboration and a shared vision for a more sustainable, connected urban future.”
Located just off Taranaki Street, the site is an important part of Wellington’s transport infrastructure, providing easy access for everyday commuters, city-based businesses, and apartment dwellers with limited home charging options.
“Urban infrastructure needs to evolve with the needs of its people. We’re proud to maintain a strong presence in Wellington’s CBD and to support the city’s wider goals for sustainable, accessible mobility. This reactivation is one piece of our broader plan to deliver resilient, high-quality fast charging across Aotearoa’s key centres,” says Sewnun.
The Inglewood Place upgrade aligns with Wellington City Council’s broader revitalisation of the site, which includes a new accessible toilet block, upgraded paving and lighting, and improved public amenity, further enhancing the liveability of the city centre for residents and destination attractiveness for visitors and locals alike.
The reinstallation of the Inglewood Place charging site reflects ChargeNet’s ongoing commitment to ensure resilient, accessible urban infrastructure across Aotearoa New Zealand’s major centres. The revitalised site forms part of a wider investment programme to upgrade infrastructure in central business districts.
