Celebrating a landmark year—thanks to your support
As 2024 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on an incredible year for EV charging in New Zealand. With the support of our drivers, partners, and stakeholders, we’ve achieved remarkable milestones and pushed boundaries in our mission to power Aotearoa New Zealand’s EV future.
This year has been one of innovation, collaboration, and growth—for ChargeNet and our customers. Your trust and commitment have been vital to our progress, and we’re grateful for the collective effort of our dedicated team, partners, stakeholders, and EV drivers who share our vision for an electrified Aotearoa.
Here’s a look at what we’ve achieved in 2024, thanks to the support of drivers like you:
-
Two million charging sessions. In April, we celebrated a major milestone—two million charging sessions across our network, just two years after reaching our first million in 2022. This rapid growth highlights the increasing adoption of EVs and the trust drivers place in our network.
-
Expanding supermarket charging. In May, we partnered with Foodstuffs to bring charging to New World, PAK’nSAVE, and Four Square locations nationwide. This partnership will deliver at least 80 new sites over four years, ensuring greater convenience at destinations that matter most to Kiwis.
-
A refreshed app for seamless charging. July saw the launch of our upgraded smartphone app, featuring real-time charger availability, faster charging starts, and enhanced account management tools—making charging easier and more intuitive for all drivers.
-
New charging hub in Tauranga. In August, we unveiled a major charging hub at Tauranga Crossing, offering 10 high-powered chargers capable of delivering up to 300km of range in just 20 minutes. This hub is strategically located to meet the growing demand in the Bay of Plenty.
-
50% network growth. We added more than 100 new charging points in 2024, expanding our network by over 50% and bringing us closer to our goal of doubling our charging points by 2026.
-
Delivering energy for the journey. Throughout the year, ChargeNet powered countless journeys, delivering enough energy to power every household in Tauranga for almost five days.
-
Network expansion backed by Genesis Energy. This significant network investment was bolstered in October with the announcement that Genesis Energy would acquire a majority shareholding in ChargeNet. This will enable us to accelerate our network expansion and scale up operations for the benefit of all customers.
Looking ahead to 2025
We’re proud of this year’s achievements and grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey—drivers, partners, stakeholders, and communities. Together, we’re creating a brighter, electrified future for Aotearoa.
