Six former Unison Networks charging sites join the ChargeNet network

September 2026 – We’re pleased to share that six former Unison Networks and Centralines EV charging sites are now transitioning to ChargeNet ownership.

The sites in Hastings (City Car Park), Napier (Dickens Street Car Park), Taupō Central (1 Kaimanawa Street), Rangitaiki (Rangitaiki Lodge), McVicar Road (Napier-Taupo Highway) and Waipukurau (Civic Theatre carpark) are transitioning to ChargeNet ownership and operation, building on the work we’ve already been doing behind the scenes to support these chargers since 2023.

What does this mean for drivers?

For many EV drivers, not much will change day to day. These chargers have already been available through the ChargeNet app and visible on our network map.

What is changing is that ChargeNet now has full responsibility for operating the sites. That means one team managing the customer experience end-to-end, with a focus on keeping chargers running reliably and resolving issues as quickly as possible.

Rotorua and Putorino chargers closing

As part of the transition, the Rotorua (Haupapa St Carpark) and Putorino charging sites will be permanently closed.

The site owners also have other plans for these locations, and there are alternative charging options available nearby.

Drivers can use the ChargeNet app or charger map to find nearby charging options.

Pricing changes

From 7 September 2026, pricing at the transferred sites will move to ChargeNet’s standard pricing structure.

We’ll contact customers before the change takes effect and encourage drivers to check the ChargeNet app for the latest pricing information.

Building on a strong foundation

We’d like to thank Unison Networks and Centralines for the role they have played in helping grow EV charging infrastructure across the central North Island.

They were early supporters of public EV charging and helped establish many of the charging options drivers rely on today. We’re proud to be building on that foundation and continuing to invest in a reliable, accessible charging network for communities across New Zealand.
